Road illuminance visualized.

Calculate average, minimum and uniformity illuminance on the road for a row of luminaires. Compare against NMX-J-307-ANCE and EN 13201 requirements and watch it on an interactive 3D scene before going out to measure.

Your project

Define the road geometry and the luminaire. The calculator solves the illuminance on a 11×31 grid over the road.

Pavement type
Affects reflectance and therefore luminance.
Pole arrangement
Single-sided (one side), staggered (two opposite rows, staggered), opposite (two opposite rows, aligned).
— Applied standard requirements

Minimum values for the selected road type.

Class Application Ē min Uo min
— Technical notes
  • This calculation uses a simplified angular distribution per IES optic type (II/III/IV/VS) and sums contributions from 3 neighboring poles at each grid point. Valid for quick project evaluation; it does not replace a formal photometric study with .IES files.
  • Minimum illuminance (Emin) is the lowest value on the calculation grid; in practice there can be darker points at extreme zones. For final design, increase MF by 5–10%.
  • Uniformity Uo ≥ 0.40 is the international standard (EN 13201) for vehicular roads. NMX-J-307-ANCE allows Uo ≥ 0.25 in residential roads and ≥ 0.30 in collectors.
  • Maintenance factor depends on environment: 0.80 clean, 0.70 industrial, 0.60 very polluted. A scheduled cleaning cycle keeps MF close to design value.
  • For bilateral arrangements (staggered or opposite), the calculation uses two opposite rows at half the indicated spacing, assuming a centered vehicle lane.
